INTERCONTINENTAL BARCLAY

First opened in 1926 as one of New York’s original railway hotels, the Barclay has long stood as a symbol of classic hospitality in the heart of Manhattan. While many neighboring hotels embraced the bold geometry and glamour of Art Deco, the Barclay has always followed a different path; one grounded in the elegance of traditional Federalist architecture.

Our design approach honored this distinction. We focused on cultivating a sense of understated luxury; crafting spaces that feel composed, calming, and graciously residential in character. We paid close attention to the quieter details; lamp shade trims, curtain borders, and fine gold etching on glass tabletops, all designed at a more intimate scale to reward a closer look. These subtle layers were essential to creating an environment that is both refined and welcoming, steeped in heritage yet timeless in spirit.
